How it works

At Consol we use the latest sunbed technology to make sure you get a darker tan while keeping you safe from burning.

How to use our sunbeds

Sunbed

Once you have paid at the touch screen, your sunbed will start automatically after 2 minutes, you do not have to press anything.

You can adjust the following functions on the sunbed control panel:

  • Voice guide
  • Volume
  • Shoulder lamps
  • Face lamps
  • Face ventilation
  • Body ventilation

Do NOT press the start/stop button unless you want to stop the tanning session

On some of our sunbeds you can even plug in your own MP3 player in case you don't appreciate our taste in music.

Using our stand-up sunbed with vibration exercise plate

You can now tone up while topping up your tan using our stand-up sunbed with a built-in exercise vibration plate. Here's how it works:

  1. Press 'Program' on the plate to choose the programme you want:

    a) Relax: For muscle relaxation
    b) Wellness: For gentle toning & wellbeing
    c) Fitness: To strengthen & tone muscles

  2. Adjust your position to a gentle squat and tighten your stomach muscles
  3. Change position of your feet between positions 1, 2 & 3 as instructed
  4. The vibration plate will stop automatically when the programme is finished.

 

How often should I tan?

You can use our sunbeds anywhere between 4-20 minutes, depending on your skin type.

For your own safety you should not have more than 60 tanning sessions per year.

What do I need to bring?

You need to be a member to use our sunbeds so remember to bring along your membership card when you come to top up your tan.

You MUST remember to wear goggles every time you tan. You can buy these and other products such as tanning lotions from our vending machines.

Top Tips

We all want a beautiful dark tan that lasts longer so here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your tanning session:

  • Start slow
    Building up your tan gradually will give you a darker tan that lasts longer
  • Use tanning lotions
    These contain ingredients like hemp to speed up the tanning process while intensively moisturising your skin.
  • Exfoliate regularly
    Exfoliating before tanning will remove dead skin cells, making your tan more even and longer lasting.
  • Exercise
    Exercising before tanning increases blood flow to the skin, stimulating the production of melanin (the pigment that makes you brown) and speeding up the tanning process.
  • Water
    Hydrated skin exfoliates slower so to make your tan last longer drink plenty of water and moisturise regularly

Science

When the skin is exposed to Ultraviolet (UV) Light, this triggers the production of a pigment called melanin, causing the skin to go brown.

Another side effect of exposure to UV light is the production of Vitamin D. Unfortunately, during winter months, most northern Europeans (that's us) don't get enough sunshine and are actually Vitamin D deficient, causing major health concerns.

Recent studies have shown that having sufficient Vitamin D levels can help:

  • Reduce the risk of several internal cancers, including Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer
  • Boost your immune system
  • Protect against heart attacks
  • Reduce the risk of Type 1 Diabetes
  • Prevent rickets
  • Reduce the risk of cognitive decline (a major risk factor in Alzheimer's and Dementia)

Safety

To make sure you're tanning safely, it is important that you follow the advice below:

  • Do NOT use a sunbed if you are under 18
  • You MUST wear goggles every time you use a sunbed
  • Measure your skin type using our skin tester and make sure you stick to the recommended time.
  • Start slowly and build up your tan gradually to avoid burning
  • Leave at least 48 hours between tanning sessions and never use a sunbed on the same day as sunbathing outdoors

If you feel unwell at any time or in case of an emergency press the green break glass alarm in the cabin.

Knowing your Skin Type

Before tanning you must measure your skin type on the skin tester attached to the pay station.

  • Skin Type 1: Fair skinned with red or blonde hair: You should not use a sunbed
  • Skin Type 2: Fair skin with blonde to brown hair: 4-8 minutes
  • Skin Type 3: Fair to light brown skin and light to dark brown hair: 8-14 minutes
  • Skin Type 4: Dark skin with dark hair: 14-20 minutes

If you're on any type of medication we advise that you check with your GP before tanning.
